This is the first electric vehicle manufactured by Jaguar. The vehicle appears to be a spacious SUV styled like a modern hatchback. We are very impressed with the vehicle’s low drag coefficient design and its great looks. Jaguar carries on its athletic and aggressive look of their design language with I-Pace as well. This proves that to make a modern and efficient car you don’t have to look geeky.
"Driving the concept on the streets is really important for the design team," said Jaguar director of design Ian Callum. "It’s very special to put the car outside and in the real world. You can see the true value of the I-Pace’s dramatic silhouette and powerful proportions when you see it on the road, against other cars."
The I-Pace has electric motors in the front and rear axles with a combined output of 400 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, which will allow it to get from 0-60 mph in just 4.0 seconds with the vehicle's very capable All-Wheel-Drive system. The vehicle is powered by a 90-kWh lithium-ion battery, and Jaguar expects it to have an EPA-estimated range of 220 miles on a full charge; an 80 percent charge is said to take just 90 minutes, with a full recharge in just two hours when a 50-kW DC fast-charging terminal is used. The range of the I-PACE Concept is enabled through its high-tech, lithium-ion battery which has a capacity of 90 kWh.
Since this is a pure electric vehicle, without needing traditional equipment of the petrol driven engines, this enables I-Pace to have tons of cabin and storage space to luxuriously accommodate every need of the modern occupants. The interior slightly resembles Tesla and other suspects of the industry with large information screens and large leg room. A 12-inch touchscreen conquers the center of the dash space, with a 5.5-inch secondary touchscreen sitting below, between two aluminum rotary dials. Infotainment and climate can be controlled on the lower screen, while navigation is in full-view above. Buttons and knobs around the dash feels like Apple’s minimalist, industrial designs, and straight out of Jony Ive’s playbook.
I-PACE Space in Numbers:
- 5 full seats
- Rear cargo area: 18 cubic feet
- Front luggage compartment: 1.2 cubic feet
- Footprint: 184 inches long x 61.4 inches high x 74.4 inches wide
All and all, we really love the 2018 Jaguar I-PACE and can’t wait to get our hands on it when it’s available for us to take a closer look. Based on our readers’ interest, we can tell this is going to be one of those vehicles destined to be an instant hit. If Jaguar plays their cards right and strategically price the I-Pace, this one could be the one that may bring the Electric Jaguar experience to the masses.#Jaguar #Electric Vehicles #I-Pace #EV #SUV #Hatchback
